Back Pockets

Choosing the right back pocket design is a great way to introduce a new look into a drab wardrobe with just one jean. Jean pockets make statements and at indi we understand this, which is why your custom jean pockets can say anything you please.
Other premium denim companies do not necessarily prioritize the task of picking the right pockets. Once you find a fit you like, you just have to live with whatever comes attached to the butt. At the price your paying for premium jeans, though, this is almost as crazy as buying a new car with someone else’s obscene bumper stickers permanently attached. Whether you like it or not, your jean pockets are constantly sending out subliminal (and not-so-subliminal) messages behind your back. Luckily, most back pockets for jeans won’t wind you up getting flipped off, but they often do make an equally emotional impact on their viewer.
The more ornate pockets can scream, “Hey, you! Get over here and buy me a drink!” while the button flap pocket can mutter “What are you looking at? I’m working from home today.”
If your pockets could speak, what would they be saying today? If you could design your own custom jean pocket, what would it look like?

Ask women what it’s like to feel sexy, to look sexy, and most women could probably make your ears bleed in a matter of minutes. Ask what makes a jean sexy, and all the sudden you have a much more philosophical conversation on your hands. So, what is a sexy jean? And what makes a jean sexy or not?
Is it the same things that makes butts and legs look sexy? Is our brain stimulated by clothed legs and, by default, the clothing on the legs? I guess that harkens back to the adage of old “Is it the man that makes the clothes or the clothes that make the man?”
Well, ladies, in this post we briefly discuss two things: lines and butts. As you’re reading this, know that you are just a few clicks away from finding out what will make your jeans so… well, sexy!
Lines
The lines of the jean determine the silhouette. To create a sexy silhouette for your body type, take a deep breath, zen out, strike a yoga pose… Do what you’ve got to do to think BALANCE!
If you’ve got great hips and your girlfriends are always complimenting you on your hot “hour-glass figure,” then choose bootcut or flare to balance the curvature of your hips.
If you’re long and thin, there are a number of leg openings you can go with that compliment those lengthy lines. Narrow, straight leg, bootcut, wide leg and flare are all in your repertoire. Go crazy.
Round and rectangle? Mid-rise bootcut jeans will slenderize and tenderize those lines for a truly sexy look.
Making your lines pleasing to the eye is dependent upon what you think is sexy on you, so sometimes the best advice is to go with your instincts. You can only pull off a style if you look and feel comfortable, so make sure you pick a style that YOU feel good in!
Butts
In our world at indiDenim, we think about pockets - a lot… and it shows. Seriously, let’s face it. Butts attract our attention for a reason. And depending on who you ask, butts are pretty sexy all by themselves, but you can’t just go around mooning people to attract the attention you crave in that direction now can you?
Not unlike shaking your tail feathers, our human nature urges us to embellish, embellish, embellish! Sexy jeans call for sexy pockets, embroidery or embellishments.
For ideas about what back pocket embellishments will work best for your particular body type, check out our post “Flattering Your Assets”.

And remember, at indi we put you in control of designing a sexy jean that’s perfect for just you. Once you’ve designed your jeans, come back here and tell us what worked for you!

OK. So, now that we’ve peeled away those excess pounds and accepted that jeans may fit differently now than they did before, let’s deconstruct the mom jean to ensure that your “mom jeans” look hotter than ever on your brand new body.
Here are some quick tips to address the typical postpartum problem areas, like suddenly too much butt or a tummy that won’t tuck:
Fit
Slim fit is going to be tight, so go for this if you want a jean that beckons a confident, youthful look. Go trouser if you want something that drapes through the hip and thigh and visually minimizes this area.
Fabric
Stretch is mainly for the comfort and wearability. Your baby will thank you!
Wash
Everyone knows that darker colors are slimming, right? Stick to the darker denims for a slimmer silhouette.
Rise
Say no to the muffin top, but keep your jeans’ waistline as physically far from your naval as is comfortably possible (at indi, our waist bands are custom-contoured to your body, so if you order low-rise you wouldn’t need to worry about plumber butt no matter what rise you choose).
- Short-waisted ladies can go with the low rise with no problem.
- If you’re long-waisted, choose mid-rise for great coverage and the added visual effect that divides the torso and lower body.
Pocket
To minimize the seat, avoid curved pockets. The simple, basic pocket looks good on everybody.
- If you want flaps? Go with the asymmetrical flap pocket for a look that will get noticed.
- If you want embroidery? Keep it simple or match the color of the thread to the jean if you can.
Leg Opening
Consider this choice very carefully as you are actually being faced with a balancing act…
- If you are feeling top heavy, draw attention away from your belly and bring a visual balance to your figure with a classic bootcut or flare.
- If you are trying to camouflage a wider thigh, go wide leg with the trouser look and avoid the pork chop front pocket as it will draw attention to that area.
Fly, Embellishments and Add-Ons
Choose carefully - there is such a thing as too many details!
Downplay those child-bearing hips by making your first jean purchase post-pregnancy a clean jean (ie avoid finishing touches around the thighs, hips, and waistline).

Butts make big statements especially when it comes to picking pockets for your next denim purchase. There are a lot of people out there who don’t pay any attention to pocket designs when they are buying a new pair of jeans, but jean pockets have a big effect on the overall look that any one particular pair of jeans can possibly pull off. The cold hard truth is that the pockets of a jean can make or break an entire ensemble.
Despite all this, most premium denim companies do not prioritize the task of picking the right jean pockets for different sizes and shapes of derrieres. Once you find a fit you like, you just have to live with whatever comes attached to the butt. At the price your paying for premium jeans, though, this is almost as crazy as buying a new car with someone else’s obscene bumper stickers permanently blaring out the back end of your vehicle. Luckily, most pockets don’t wind you up getting flipped off, but they often do make an equally emotional impact on their viewer. Whether you like it or not, your pockets are constantly sending out subliminal (and not-so-subliminal) messages behind your back.
To make your butt look great in your next jeans purchase choose pockets from one of our sexy style choices. There’s no shame in being a plain jane, but when it comes to being a picky pickpocketer there are no buts about it! Next time your browsing through racks and racks of possible premium denim purchases, remember that indi makes it possible to fit your pear shape and your personality!

I’m a pretty green girl. No, not behind the ears. Okay, maybe a little behind the ears, but what I actually meant by that is, you know, energy conscious. As a result, I’m often found on two wheels, or tracks, or at the very back of a big honking zero emissions bus. In any case, these modes of transportation in urban environments like the Bay Area really give you a feel for the city in ways that the car just doesn’t accommodate and in my line of work that often means slamming on the breaks when I see a style that I like. However, you learn pretty early on that AC transit and the compulsion to stare at people’s behinds do not generally mix that well.
That said, I must share about the day that this theory was completely disproved!
Bay Area Rapid Transit or BART for short, is our metro, our tube, our L and, in many ways, the reason why it’s impossible to hail a cab in any of the following zip codes: 94117, 94501, 94601… You get the picture. Anyway, today I got caught staring at the pockets of this guy in really great jeans thinking “indi should be releasing our new denim pockets designs soon and wow, there’s a cute pocket design for men right there, and I should really do a blog post about pockets…” There I am, innocently staring off into the space that happens to be occupied by this individual’s very cute butt and WHAMMO! Sudden eye contact leads to a swift head turn and the excruciatingly long pure, stupid, awkward silence that ensues as I try to find the least perverted thing on which to cast my gaze anew. But get this. Instead of apologizing and going into a long-winded explanation of why I so freely - and indiscriminately I might add! - take the liberty of staring at this particular vicinity of people’s posteriors and, of course, adding the best copout excuse of all time: the “believe-me-this-is-what-I-do-for-a-living” line… I stop and realize that this one is actually checking ME OUT BACK NOW! My thought process comes to a screeching halt and, well, I have a date this Friday night and it’s all thanks to indi.

Know Your Seat Shape
The female backside comes in all different sizes in shapes, but we’ve broken it down into four basic types: flat , average , prominent , and full . For each seat shape you can customize your jeans to use visual tricks to your advantage, whether your goal is to minimize the booty or play up a luscious look.
Type 1- Flat Seat
For a flat seat, create the illusion of curves with prominent backside styles. Pocket flaps are in high demand right now, and you’ve got the ideal shape to rock this fashion. We recommend indi’s standard pocket with flaps for day-to-day classic style. If you want achieve a sexier look, the curved pocket with flaps can round out a flat rear in a way you never imagined possible.
Type 2- Average Seat
If you have an average seat, the world of premium denim is yours to play in and the sky is the limit. Whether your preference is for simple pockets or cutting edge embroidery, you can pull off any look. For the no-frills chick, we recommend indi’s take on modern vintage with sanded and distressed pockets . If you’re looking for some fabulous flair, check out the emblem embroidered pocket in your choice of four different colors.
Type 3- Prominent Seat
Be proud of your curves, and don’t be afraid to show them off! But remember, no elaborate pocket styles are needed to draw attention to your derriere. A standard pocket shape works best with your figure, and subtle embroidery can go far to accentuate a round seat. Two of our favorite styles for this body type are the orchid embroidery in a two-colored scheme and the scroll embroidery in navy for those feeling flashy.
Type 4- Full Seat
Like the women who fall into the “prominent” category above, you can definitely use denim to show off a shapely feminine figure. Still, if you’re looking to visually minimize your backside, there are a few simple rules to follow. Remember to steer clear of pocket flaps , and always avoid curved pocket shapes. When customizing for your body type we recommend a standard pocket shape, either plain or with subtle decoration like indi’s loop embroidery in your choice of three different color schemes.
No matter what your shape and size, the design is in your hands with indi’s customized denim. Visit www.indidenim.com to view our entire range of style options and build the perfect jeans for your unique body type.
