Where can you find the world’s largest pair of custom jeans?
If you ask Croatia, they’ll direct you to their capital city of Zagreb, where the organizers of the Cockta Jeans Fabric Project have stitched together 8,023 pairs of donated jeans to create one giant custom jean with a 148 foot rise. That’s right - this pair of jeans is spread about 112 feet wide and is the size of about six tennis courts.

Source: Yahoo! News
Why, you ask? Don’t worry, it was for a good cause! The project donated over $10,000 (seven kunas - or $1.30 - per donated pair of jeans) to a local charity which provides therapy to disabled people.
So, now that we know what the people in Croatia do with their old jeans (or just when they’re bored), we’re curious, what do you do with yours?

Humans have worn holey clothes for as long as they’ve worn clothes. Although the first holes were accidental, people have been using holes decoratively for millennia. Today we often associate holey clothing with punk and grunge culture, but we forget that holes can also be opulent and elegant. Don’t believe me? Check out this painting of Henry VIII. His garment has dozens of tiny slits cut into it and he has meticulously puffed his white undershirt through the holes.

Now there’s a man who knew how to wear holes! Here at indi we plan to introduce heavy distressing options for our customers and I think we can all learn a bit from Henry VIII’s fashion sense. (I would not, however, recommend following his marital advice.)
So, this brings up the question—when wearing holey jeans, what style would you like to channel? British royalty or British punk bands? Counter culture or haute couture? Grandeur or grunge? These days, the choice is up to you!

Product development has got to be one of the most fun parts of working at indi. Not only does it mean we get to be creative, but it also means one of my favorite things—new jeans!
Today we are taking some of the final steps to launch our new Spanish and Japanese denims. We’ve tested out the fabrics (see Marybeth in her Japanese fits below), perfected the washes, and are just about to set them up for web. Now, all that’s left is for the engineering powers that be to do their thing, and you, too, will be able to design your own Spanish and Japanese jeans.

For all of you who aren’t familiar with what makes Japanese and Spanish denim worth the trans-atlantic/trans-pacific journey, you’ll just have to check out my forthcoming blog entry. But because I’m a big fan of teasers, here is a brief description (along with a picture) of our new denims designed to whet any jean connoisseur’s appetite.

Turning Japanese?
Japanese denim, perhaps the most coveted of all denims, is actually spun on vintage American shuttle looms that were purchased by the Japanese after WWII. Traditional production techniques and smaller looms mean this denim is far more labor intensive to create, but the Japanese, for whom the phrase “bigger is better” doesn’t really resonate, saw a business opportunity and snatched up the looms faster than the Americans could say, “wait, how much will that vintage looking denim sell for in the 21st century?”
Hecho en Espana
European fabric, in general, is known for quality, style and, of course, pride and pretentiousness. So when we were selecting our Spanish fabric, we wanted to make sure it was as loud and proud as possible. Accordingly, we chose a denim with a fine yet bold crosshatch—think sophistication, with an edge.
Still want to know more about these new fabrics? Check back next week, and I’ll give you the full 411 on Japanese and Spanish denim. I promise not to disappoint…

Choosing the right back pocket design is a great way to introduce a new look into a drab wardrobe with just one jean. Jean pockets make statements and at indi we understand this, which is why your custom jean pockets can say anything you please.
Other premium denim companies do not necessarily prioritize the task of picking the right pockets. Once you find a fit you like, you just have to live with whatever comes attached to the butt. At the price your paying for premium jeans, though, this is almost as crazy as buying a new car with someone else’s obscene bumper stickers permanently attached. Whether you like it or not, your jean pockets are constantly sending out subliminal (and not-so-subliminal) messages behind your back. Luckily, most back pockets for jeans won’t wind you up getting flipped off, but they often do make an equally emotional impact on their viewer.
The more ornate pockets can scream, “Hey, you! Get over here and buy me a drink!” while the button flap pocket can mutter “What are you looking at? I’m working from home today.”
If your pockets could speak, what would they be saying today? If you could design your own custom jean pocket, what would it look like?
Browse through our pocket portfolio below and let your inner pick pickpocketer really shine!

Ask women what it’s like to feel sexy, to look sexy, and most women could probably make your ears bleed in a matter of minutes. Ask what makes a jean sexy, and all the sudden you have a much more philosophical conversation on your hands. So, what is a sexy jean? And what makes a jean sexy or not?
Is it the same things that makes butts and legs look sexy? Is our brain stimulated by clothed legs and, by default, the clothing on the legs? I guess that harkens back to the adage of old “Is it the man that makes the clothes or the clothes that make the man?”
Well, ladies, in this post we briefly discuss two things: lines and butts. As you’re reading this, know that you are just a few clicks away from finding out what will make your jeans so… well, sexy!
Lines
The lines of the jean determine the silhouette. To create a sexy silhouette for your body type, take a deep breath, zen out, strike a yoga pose… Do what you’ve got to do to think BALANCE!
If you’ve got great hips and your girlfriends are always complimenting you on your hot “hour-glass figure,” then choose bootcut or flare to balance the curvature of your hips.
If you’re long and thin, there are a number of leg openings you can go with that compliment those lengthy lines. Narrow, straight leg, bootcut, wide leg and flare are all in your repertoire. Go crazy.
Round and rectangle? Mid-rise bootcut jeans will slenderize and tenderize those lines for a truly sexy look.
Making your lines pleasing to the eye is dependent upon what you think is sexy on you, so sometimes the best advice is to go with your instincts. You can only pull off a style if you look and feel comfortable, so make sure you pick a style that YOU feel good in!
Butts
In our world at indiDenim, we think about pockets - a lot… and it shows. Seriously, let’s face it. Butts attract our attention for a reason. And depending on who you ask, butts are pretty sexy all by themselves, but you can’t just go around mooning people to attract the attention you crave in that direction now can you?
Not unlike shaking your tail feathers, our human nature urges us to embellish, embellish, embellish! Sexy jeans call for sexy pockets, embroidery or embellishments.
For ideas about what back pocket embellishments will work best for your particular body type, check out our post “Flattering Your Assets”.
Want to see more options? Check out our pocket portfolio in the next post and vote on your favorite sexy back pocket for jeans from indi. And remember, at indi we put you in control of designing a sexy jean that’s perfect for just you. Once you’ve designed your jeans, come back here and tell us what worked for you!

indi gets black denim! If you are as excited about black denim being introduced to our design-your-own-denim line as I am, be prepared to answer the classic eighties question: “Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe?” because when the ghost of eighties past crept up on the fashion scene in a skinny silhouette, black denim came close behind swinging for a T.K.O. By popular demand, indi is doing our part to bring back black denim in full force.
About the fabric:
Our black denim is a mid weight 11.5 oz fabric in 100% cotton. The Sable wash is slightly darker than the Black Slate and the Black Slate a little softer than the Sable.
Style Suggestions:
In case you’re already planning which style you will choose for your new pair of black denim jeans from indi, we’re expecting this fabric to best suit our SoMa with a narrow or tapered leg opening. For a fashion forward look, design your own black jeans to sit a little higher on your ankle by simply requesting a shorter than normal inseam.
Pair this style with black peep-toe slingback pumps and a colorful trapeze top and stylewise you’ll be good to go any day or night of the week!

There are a ton of simple strategies to rocking out your new take on “mom jeans” from the waist up. Just to name a few that may be popular this summer…
- Steer clear from flimsy or sheer shirts on top. Let a breezy billowy blouse hang freely at your hips or pair it with a low slung belt for a super simple way to downplay a larger tummy or seat.
- Wear a wrap to accentuate your still-intact sexy little neckline and form fit your bust in a particularly feminine way.
- Another maternal figure-flatterer is the trendy wide belt. Wrap it around almost any cutesy top to create the hour-glass effect (but remember to say no to muffin top by not tightening the belt too much).
Sporting great jeans as a mom is made easy with these go-to mom jean away ideas. Start with finding a great jean for your mom body at indi. Design your own custom denim starting from the pockets to the bottom hem and we know that the phrase “mom jeans” will be the last thing that comes to mind when you’re spotted in indi denim.
Walk through our online ordering process to see what kinds of jeans you would design for yourself! Once you order and are fit with your perfect jeans, come back here and share what works for you with all the other moms out here who may read this.
